It has
became an excellence ever as an
era to innovative, enthusiastic approach among starting profession in Health
Care Biotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology, Food Processing Biotechnology,
Intellectual Property Rights and finally Bio-entrepreneur.
When father in science discover as his child, imaginations explored God creation until next millennium doesn’t come under Biotechnology. It happened since 1917 when Karl Ereky coined term Biotechnology, A.Jost coined term Genetic engineering but “Paul Berg” became Father of Genetic engineering after so many contribution in it, recently when PCR discovered by karry Mullis with establishment in 1988. Biotechnology become stronger as era where ‘Golden rice’ developed, ‘Human genome’ sequenced, ‘Gene chip’ technology and finally FDA approved ‘Nucleic acid test system’ to screen whole blood doner for HIV/HCV.
As defined by U.S. national science Foundation “Biotechnology is the controlled use of biological agents for beneficial use” while Gibbs & Greenhalgh, 1983 defined it as “the use of living organism in systems or processes for the manufacture of useful products”. We found a broad spectrum of application from biological agents or living organism from ancient times but we didn’t aware about it. Such as Algae = source of proteins extracted from spirulina, Fungi= Antibiotic’s, Yeast= wine, cake, bread; Bacteria= curd, mining, sewage treatment, pollution indicator etc.
Modern biotechnology involves advanced techniques whereby researcher can take a single gene from plant or animal cell and insert it in another plant or animal cell to give it a desired characteristic, such as pest resistance plant. Researchers have a wide application depending on scholar interest, but one should be clear about for his future and where his destiny lies is? After completing secondary exam student may opt a biotechnology for his career and finally completion of doctoral degree became part of pride in application part or further involvement in research activity. There are several institutions which hold dignity and pride in biotechnology sector, in India Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, The Energy and Resource University, Indian Institute of Technology and many more which are not listed yet. Now a day’s Government of India, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science & Technology, CSIR, UGC, ICMR conducts various scholarship opportunity for further innovation in his desire interests.
